- κυβερνήτης, ου, ὁ (s. two prec. entries; Hom. et al.; ins, pap, LXX, Philo; Jos., Vi. 163; TestNapht 6:2; loanw. in rabb.; variously, ‘shipmaster, steersman’).① one who is responsible for the management of a ship, shipmaster, lit. Rv 18:17; IPol 2:3; AcPl Ha 7, 19; 38.
